The British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) today announced the nominations for their 69th annual awards.
In the Feature Film category this is the first nominations for Lol Crawley (The Brutalist), Stéphane Fontaine (Conclave) and Paul Guilhaume (Emilia Pérez). This is the fourth nomination for Greig Fraser (Dune: Part Two), he was previously nominated for Lion (2016), Dune (2021) and The Batman (2022). This is the second nomination for Jarin Blaschke (Nosferatu), he was previously nominated for The Lighthouse (2019).
The British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) was established in 1949 with 2024 being the 75th Anniversary of the society. Across its 75 years it has included among its membership 27 Oscar winners and countless Emmy and BAFTA winners. The BSC award for Cinematography In A Feature Film is the second oldest award issued for Cinematography (behind the Academy Award). Last year’s recipient, Robbie Ryan BSC ISC (Poor Things) went on to be nominated for both an Oscar and BAFTA but ultimately lost both to Hoyte van Hoytema for Oppenheimer. In the recent past, winners of the BSC that went on to repeat at the Oscars include 2022’s All Quiet on the Western Front, 2020’s Mank, 2019’s 1917, 2018’s Roma and 2017’s Blade Runner 2049.
The winners will be announced live at the BSC Awards Ceremony on Saturday, February 1 at Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Here is the complete list of nominations, including categories for British television and music video.
