The Children’s & Family Emmys are on the move. As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Thursday revealed the nominations for the 3rd annual event, it also announced that the ceremonies would take place on March 15 in Los Angeles. (The competition’s first two years were held in December.)
As for the nominations themselves, leading the charge was Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” with 16 nods — including for young teen series, where it faces off with Disney+’s “Goosebumps,” Netflix’s “Heartstopper,” Netflix’s “One Piece” and Roku Channel’s “The Spiderwick Chronicles.”
“Percy Jackson” also received nods for several performers, including a posthumous nod for Lance Reddick. Other programs performing well include HBO/Max’s “Sesame Street” (13 noms), “Spiderwick Chronicles” (13 noms), Netflix’s “StoryBots: Answer Time” (10 noms), Apple TV+’s “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock” (10 noms), “One Piece” (9 noms) and “Goosebumps” (9 noms).
“This year’s nominations are particularly meaningful as much of the work being honored was delayed due to last year’s strikes,” said Rachel Schwartz, head of the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. “It is a privilege to have been named Head of a competition that is not only honoring exceptional talent but is also shaping the way children and their families interact with the world. Congratulations to all.”
Besides those “Sesame Street” noms, it received an honorable mention in the juried public service initiative category, which had two winners: Univision’s “La Fuerza-STEM: Engaging Hispanic Families in Science Through Culturally Relevant Media” and Nickelodeon’s “Well Versed.”
Details and information about the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards ceremonies, as well Lifetime Achievement honoree and ceremony host and presenters, will be announced in early 2025.
“The feedback from the Children’s community has been a desire to have the ceremony was on the other side of the holiday season,” NATAS president/CEO Adam Sharp told Variety last year in explaining the shift. “So rather than being December 2024… that way we’re not killing a weekend in everyone’s holiday party season.”
