The "big gay zombie movie" stars Katy O'Brian, Margaret Cho, Jack Haven and Cheyenne Jackson.

Queens of the Dead, the “big gay zombie movie” from filmmaker Tina Romero (daughter of the legendary George A. Romero), has officially been picked up for theatrical release via Independent Film Company and Shudder.

Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, the zomcom is set to hit theaters across the country this fall, with no specific date given as of yet.

Queens of the Dead was co-written by Romero and Erin Judge, and stars Katy O'Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Margaret Cho (Fire Island), Jack Haven (I Saw The TV Glow) and Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), and follows an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies who must put aside their personal dramas and use their unique skills to combat the brain-thirsty undead when a zombie apocalypse breaks out during their drag show in Brooklyn.

Also starring are Nina West (Rupaul’s Drag Race), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Becca Blackwell (Bros), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Dominique Jackson (Pose), Riki Lindhome (Knives Out), and Eve Lindley (Bros).

In a statement to Deadline on the acquisition, Romero had this to say:

“Independent Film Company and Shudder couldn’t be a more perfect home for Queens of the Dead. I’m honored to partner with such a kickass and creative team of people who really love movies, and I’m so grateful for their belief in giving indie darlings a moment on the big screen because I think this is a film people will want to see together. With popcorn. Dressed in zombie couture.”

Independent Film Company and Shudder’s Director of Acquisitions and Productions, Adam Koehler adds:

“We’re beyond thrilled to bring this wildly original vision to audiences — a fearless, glam-drenched ride that’s as funny as it is ferocious. With razor-sharp direction and a fierce cast, Queens of the Dead is a thrilling new chapter in a legacy of horror royalty.”

Look out for more on Queens of the Dead‘s theatrical release as we get it!
