Director of Photography Nicola Marsh is shooting the new documentary about Rick Rubin, legendary music producer.

"Showtime is laying down tracks for a new docuseries spotlighting Rick Rubin, the record producer who has worked with seemingly everyone from Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. to Black Sabbath, Slayer, Johnny Cash and Lady Gaga. Directed by Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?), it’s slated to air later this year.

Working-titled Shangri-La after his infamous Malibu studio, the series will screen at SXSW in March as a work-in-progress.

The series is billed as an all-access pass into Rubin’s creative process, giving viewers a taste of what it’s like to be produced by the music world’s most singular voice.

A tad hyperbolic?

Maybe, but since breaking out as the collegiate co-founder of Def Jam Recordings in the mid-1980s, Rubin has produced some of rock, hip hop and pop’s most popular and influential artists. He has won the Producer of the Year Grammy three times and also has scored Grammys for Album of the Year and Record of the Year, along with the Recording Academy’s top LP prizes for rock, country, folk and metal.

Neville won the Documentary Feature Oscar for 2013’s 20 Feet From Stardom, and his Fred Rodgers docu Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is shortlisted for the Academy Award this year.

Shangri-La is a Tremolo production. Neville, Rubin, Jeff Malmberg, Danny Breen, Michael Goldberg, Eric Lynn, Isaac Heymann, Diana Schmedeman and Jason Schrift serve as executive producers, and Jeff Malmberg will direct two episodes of the series."
